Asian vodka opts for 'new category'

08 August, 2008

Extreme Spirits is rebranding its Asian flavoured vodka Wokka Saki.

Wokka is a micro-distilled grain vodka with a blend of Japanese sake infused with Asian fruit.

The vodka will be given a new name - Wokka Fusion Vodka - in an effort to describe it more clearly and to create a new spirits category that will

sit half way between a

neutral vodka and a

flavoured vodka.

Marketing director Tim Day said: "After conducting considerable research in the UK and USA, both the trade and consumer unanimously prefer the name Wokka. By declaring the brand

a

fusion vod ka , we have

defined a new category and one which better personifies the nature of Wokka."

The company is also launching a 20cl bottle known as Mini Wokka .

Wokka Saki was launched in Miami in April 2005. It is available in specialist retailers across the UK through distributor EPM Brands with an rrp of £24.99 for a 70cl bottle.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
