Amtrak collapse hits wine deliveries

Oddbins deliveries to some customers have been delayed by the collapse of delivery company Amtrak.

Wine in transit is among many deliveries which are now being reassigned to alternative couriers by administrator Ernst & Young.

An Oddbins spokesman said: “Following the Amtrak collapse, there were a small number of customer orders that were affected. We are in the process of contacting all customers to inform them and reschedule deliveries.

“The disruption to our customers has been minimal, as a contingency was quickly put in place as soon as we were made aware of the problem. We are confident that in most cases outstanding customer orders will be completed within the specified delivery timescale. Future customer orders will not be affected as we have alternative couriers in place.”

Amtrak has also worked with Majestic and Laithwaites and many independent wine merchants.

One of the Joint Administrators from Ernst & Young said: “Amtrak has found trading in the current economic climate challenging. It is a business led by consumer demand and as consumer spending power has weakened Amtrak’s business has suffered.

“We are currently assessing the financial situation of the business, and as a result the collection and delivery of goods may be disrupted.”

It is Amtrak’s second administration in two years, putting 1,000 jobs in jeopardy at its 80 depots and in its fleet of over 2,000 trucks and vans.
