Yvon Mau turns first LEAF

The first wines to carry the marque of environmentally-friendly farming initiative Linking Environment

and Farming

have been produced by Bordeaux negociant Yvon Mau.

Red wines have been produced under a L EAF-backed project on three Mau family-run estates: Ch âteau Lavison, Ch âteau Haut-Grand-Champ and Ch âteau Chillac.

Ch âteau Haut-Grand-Champ has also made white and rosé L EAF marque wines.

Retail prices will be in the region of £6.99 for the Ch âteau Lavison red and £5.99 for the others.

L EAF is a charity based at the National Agricultur al Centre in Warwickshire, promoting environmental care in farming , and the

marque

appears on a

range of fruit and vegetables.

Producers undergo

assessment on

chemical usage, recycling, waste disposal, energy saving and biodiversity.

Yvon Mau is part of the Freixenet Spanish-owned wine group

and the wines are being distributed through Freixenet's

office in the UK.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
