Glenfiddich will release its annual Vintage Reserve bottling in the autumn. Only 450 bottles of the single cask whisky, which was put in an Oloroso sherry butt in 1977, will be released with an rrp of around £375.

Inverhouse Distillers' AnCnoc malt whisky is sponsoring arts events at the Tron and the Arches in Glasgow, and the Traverse Theatre and the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, this autumn. The company's Balblair 1989

Burn Stewart-owned whisky blend Black Bottle continues its sponsorship of the Islay Jazz Festival

as it hits its 10th year.

Running from Sept 12 -14,

it includes concerts at the Bunnahabhain, Ardbeg and Laphroaig distilleries.

Old malt is being sold though a sealed-bid auction at Harrods by Whyte & Macka y.

It has a reserve price of £2,000 and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Bids can be made in-store until Sept 23.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
