Latvia joins race for vodka share

Latvia is the latest country to enter the crowded vodka category in the UK.

UB Drinks is launching Dannoff with a £3.5 million marketing campaign including radio advertising and retailer support.

The 37.5% abv brand will be sold with a keen £9.99 recommended price point.

National sales director Andy Causer: said: “The launch couldn’t come at a better time, when consumers and retailers alike are feeling the pinch of the credit crunch.

“Dannoff is a sophisticated vodka without the premium price tag, giving retailers an excellent opportunity to increase profitability.

Dannoff is quadruple-distilled at the Latvijas Balzams Distillery in Riga, the Latvian capital.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
