Rémy Cointreau teams up with First Drinks

17 September, 2008

Spirits giants William Grant & Sons and Rémy Cointreau have announced a partnership agreement across Europe.

In the UK, Grant subsidiary First Drinks Brands will become the distributor for the Rémy portfolio, which includes Rémy Martin Cognacs, Cointreau, Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck Champagnes, Mount Gay rum, Passoã liqueur and St-Rémy French brandy.

The UK deal becomes effective on April 1 2009 – immediately after Rémy withdraws from the Maxxium group – and will add a further 250,000 cases to the First Drinks business.

Grant’s European managing director Gordon Dron said: “We are delighted to be working closer with Rémy Cointreau as there is a lot of synergy between the two companies which have complementary portfolios of premium brands and shared distribution requirements in some markets.”

Spyros Ghikas, Rémy’s managing director for Europe and Middle East, added: “Our partnership with William Grant & Sons in the UK, France and Belgium fits in perfectly with Rémy Cointreau’s premium strategy.”
