ASA bans Coors ad

An ad for Coors Light has been banned by the Advertising Standards Agency because it is likely to appeal

to adolescents. The ad showed two white men singing a song about the lager in a reggae style, imitating Jamaican accents and dancing. One viewer also complained

the accent and dance moves were offensive and racist, but that complaint was not upheld.

Minimum wage increase

Some 1 million workers across the UK

will benefit from the national minimum wage increase

to £5.73 per hour,

said the TUC. The 3.8% increase was introduced at the start of the month . Over the past nine and a half years, the NMW has increased by 59.2%, compared with a 44.2% growth in average earnings. See Market Monitor on page 13 for more.

All about Israel

A website about Israeli wine has been launched. features information on wine tourism, wine and religion and a directory of wineries as well as the latest news from the country. "I have created the website to report and provide information on Israel's best -kept secret - its dynamic, quality-driven wine industry," said Israel Preker of Israel Wines.

Champagne appointment

Champagne Jacquart has appointed Mamadou Gueye export director for the UK and Ir eland. Gueye

joins from Loire negociant Marcel Sautejeau to

oversee on and off-trade sales in the new role, which was previously shared between two people. Gueye said: "In my new position I can ensure

there will be co- ordinated activity across the board, making it more rational and more effective."

Cobra in film deal

Cobra Beer is continuing its partnership with

the British Film Institute for a second year. Cobra will be the official beer of the BFI Southbank complex and the BFI's major festivals as part of the sponsorship , which starts with

the Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival

this month, and the London Lesbian

& Gay Film Festival in March 2009.

The mark of Berberana

Spanish wine brand Berberana has linked up with

West End musical Zorro in a n on-pack promotion that offers

discounted tickets to the show a nd the chance to win a trip to Spain . Berberana is also featuring in tastings at trade and consumer events .

Berberana tastings will run in selected Sainsbury's stores

this autumn.
