Eco-friendly range gets a makeover

17 October, 2008

Chilean producer Viña Ventisquero has relaunched its off-trade Yali Winemaker's Selection range to emphasise its green commitments.

The range's Wetland Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère have been given back labels that explain their connection to the El Yali Wetland Zone, a protected area that is home to a quarter of all the bird species to be found in Chile.

The front label has an artist's view of a bird sitting on a bullrush in the wetland zone and a Climate Care logo stat ing that CO2 emissions from transporting the wine have been offset.

The new packaging is 9% lighter than the old.

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
