New wines from Kleine Zalze

South Africa's Kleine Zalze has launched two new wine ranges aimed at the UK multiple and independent off-trade. Zalze, rrp £5.99-£7.99, is aimed at multiples, while Kleine Zalze Family Reserve range, rrp £19.99-£22.99, is targeted at independents. Stevens Garnier's Ross Sleet said: "Following Kleine Zalze's success in the UK on-trade, we are now offering a new range of unpretentious, wholly South African wine to the off-trade."

Williamson takes the chair

Slim Williamson has been appointed Inspirit Brands' new chairman, replacing John Coe. Williamson joins from Paragon Vintners, which he helped set up 18 years ago. Highlights of his career include revitalising the Krug brand and launching Angostura rum in the UK. "My aim is to help the management push the business forward, growing existing brands while

also looking to attract new additions to

the portfolio," he said.

London tequila masterclasses

Cellar Trends and the Patrón Spirits Company are holding two tequila masterclasses on Nov 10 at London's Shaker UK Bar School. Mexican master distiller and blender Francisco Alcaraz will lead guests through a tasting of the Patrón range and a selection of specially created cocktails. Perrier-Jouët gets arty

Bordeaux charity walk

The Wine Trade Sports Club is organising a 25 km walk in Bordeaux from April 24-26 to raise cash for the Benevolent homes in Eastbourne. The walk will also celebrate the life of Richard Parsons, who invented the wine trade walk to raise funds for

7,500 visitors at Tesco Fairs

Tesco Wine Club Fairs attracted record numbers this year with a 40% increase in visitors, the retailer claims. Over 7,500 customers attended the events in London, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh, where they had the opportunity to meet winemakers and suppliers face

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
