Carling launches price-marked packs

Coors hopes independents will be able to claim a slice of the Christmas action on Carling with a new price-marked multipack.

Retailing at £3.99 for 4x50cl cans or £7 for two packs of 4x50cl, the SKUs will be available throughout December from the cash and carry sector.

The 2008 Cash & Carry Retailer study by market research agency HIM found that 66% of retailers believe price marking is effective in promoting products and improving rate of sale.

The packs feature Carling’s new 100% British Barley message, which Coors said “reflects increased consumer interest in the quality and sourcing of the products they buy and champions the best quality British ingredients in Carling”.

Carling is the number two lager in the take-home market after Stella Artois, according to Nielsen figures, achieving a 4% sales increase in the year to Oct 4.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
