Exclusive Christmas ales at Morrisons

12 December, 2008

Morrisons has launched two exclusive seasonal ales in partnership with respected microbreweries.

Rudolph the Red Nosed White Horse is a 4.8% abv beer made by the White Horse Brewery in Oxfordshire. Chestnut Beer has been brewed by Stoke’s Titanic Brewery, which has previously worked with Morrisons on the Green Hop and Summer Fruit beers.

Rudolph has “warm citrus and candied peel flavours mixed with the dryness of a drawn out fermentation, along with new season hops and the sweetness of pure English malt”.

Chestnut “combines the best of British malt and hops with natural chestnut flavours to create a warming winter beer”.

Trading manager Mark Cox said: “We initially introduced the seasonal range to offer our customers beers that are new and exciting. Now we have expanded it further by adding these festive beers for the Christmas season.”

Both beers are available nationally at £1.59 for a 50cl bottle.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
