Price-marked packs cash in on crunch

Imperial Tobacco is hoping to attract cash-strapped shoppers with new price-marked packs for Golden Virginia.

The roll-your-own category has seen a "reversal in its fortunes in the current economic climate", according to Imperial, with value sales up 8% and volume sales up 12% in the past year.

A Golden Virginia 12.5g pouch will retail for £2.94, and

25g

for £5.77.

A series of limited -edition 14g packs will also be introduced from this month while stocks last.

Marketing manager Alistair Brown said: "We are always looking at new ways in which we can develop the brand to reflect the changing preferences of

UK adult smokers."
