Ex-Oddbins Gadsby joins Berkmann

17 December, 2008

Former Oddbins sales director Andy Gadsby has joined Berkmann Wine Cellars as senior national account manager in the off-trade team.

Gadsby left Oddbins a week before Christmas last year after 14 years with the business – saying he couldn't face continuing with the company into 2008 "under the current conditions".

The chain's then owner, French wine company Castel, was closing shops and converting others to the Nicolas brand.

Oddbins was bought by Simon Baile and his brother-in-law Henry Young in August.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
