Pierhead gets Kross

Speciality beer importer Pierhead Purchasing has added Kross Pilsner from Chile to its range.

The company had been working on a deal to represent the South American microbrewer in the UK market since last summer.

Kross was formed by German brewer Asbjorn Gerlach and Chilean entrepreneur Jose Tomas in 2003 and employs just eight people.

The 4.9% abv beer is brewed in a similar style to Czech pilsners, using Saaz hops and five weeks lagering.

Michael Cook, Pierhead’s director of imported beer, said: “The attention to detail and innovative nature of the brewery is second to none and Kross has an excellent chance of getting the same foothold in the UK market as Chilean wines have.

“We are still seeing that even with the economic problems, consumers are searching out and drinking distinctive, unusual beers from around the world which ooze personality, provenance and quality.

“Retailers have an excellent opportunity to increase sales by educating and impressing consumers with distinctive craft brews from this region.”

Kross joins a Pierhead range that includes Brok from Poland, Jenlain Six from France and Coopers Sparkling Ale from Australia.
