Launch of environment-friendly Champagne

Vranken-Pommery has extended its POP Champagne brand with the launch of POP Earth.

The environment-friendly brand is produced with grapes from Pommery’s sustainable viticulture programmes, and packaged in glass weighing 35g less than standard Champagne bottles.

Water-based inks are used for the labels and six-pack boxes, both of which are produced from recycled materials keeping packaging waste to a minimum.

Vranken-Pommery Monopole’s UK manager Sara Hicks said: “POP Earth really is the symbol of Pommery’s sustainable development strategy.

“Pommery was the first winery in the world to gain ISO certifications for their environmental and social practices in 1998 and one of the first Champagne houses to use lighter weight bottles in 1999.”

The wines have a recommended selling price of £31.99 and are available through Percy Fox and Justerini & Brooks.

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
