New TV ad for Guinness

A new TV ad for Guinness has been produced to remind infrequent drinkers about the “excitement” of the beer’s pour, according to Diageo GB.

The new 20-second ad first aired last night in the coverage of the England v Ukraine World Cup qualifier. The commercial will continue to be screened throughout April and May.

The campaign is part of the celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guinness signing the lease on the St James’s Gate brewery in Ireland.

Marketing manager Paul Cornell said: “The new TV advertisement perfectly depicts the excitement surrounding the Guinness pour and the way it comes alive in front of your eyes like no other beer.

“The advertisement is set to drive footfall in-store from people who want to enjoy a great pint of Guinness whilst making the most of Easter and the Bank holidays, as well as the culmination of the domestic sporting season.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
