AB Inbev prefers Leuven to New York

29 April, 2009

AB Inbev has scrapped plans to move its global headquarters to New York.

The brewing giant has instead opted to maintain its head office at Leuven in Belgium.

The company's North American operations will continue to be run from St Louis, the home of Anheuser-Busch - the Budweiser brewer which merged with Inbev last year in a $52 billion deal.

Chief executive Carlos Brito told shareholders on Tuesday that the decision had been taken to continue the heritage of the brewer, which had been operating from Leuven in one form or another since 1366.

A smaller office will now be created in New York to help service the North American market, which now provides some 40% of AB Inbev sales.
