The thrill of the Chase

10 April, 2009

Potato vodka Tyrrell s is undergoing a major packaging revamp and name change.

The move follows founder William Chase's sale of his majority stake in the crisps brand of the same name, to private equity firm Langholm Capital, for 30 million last year.

The renamed Chase Vodka will be available in a hand-signed and batch-numbered "premium, more elegant bottle", according to the

producer.

The vodka has a "wholesome buttery scent , with notes of mashed potato, leading on to a slightly smoked almond finish, with a hint of black pepper," it added.

The distillery is also planning to launch a 50% abv gin this summer, which contains the same potato base spirit .

"Gin is effectively a flavoured vodka i n some ways because it starts as a neutral spirit. Along with juniper, we are looking at some unusual botanicals. The sweetness of the potato spirit comes through in the gin," said distiller Jamie Baxter.

Reasons to be cheerful
