Taurus Wines gears up for summer fest

Taurus Wines of Whipley Manor, Surrey, is hosting its eighth summer festival on May 20.

The farmers' market-style event takes place from 6.30pm until 9pm on the courtyards in front of the shop.

Several winemakers are expected to attend the event, which will give customers access to some 300 wines, spirits and

ales, as well as p t and cheese.

The 10 entry fee includes a souvenir wine glass and a 5 donation to a cancer centre in Guildford.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
