Getting Fresh with rosÚ beer

24 April, 2009

Fresh Trade UK is launching a rosÚ version of its A Le Coq Estonian beer and introducing a range of flavoured ciders from the country under the brand name Fizz.

A Le Coq RosÚ is flavoured with strawberry juice and is packaged in 33cl bottles at an abv of 4%.

Fizz is made by a sister company to A Le Coq in the Finnish-owned Olvi drinks group.

It is available in 33cl and 50cl cans in pear, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, dry apple, diamond (carambola and grapefruit)

and yellow plum varieties.

A 50cl bottle is available in pear, strawberry and blueberry flavours.

All are packaged at

4.7% abv.

Fresh Trade UK director Maurice Newton said: "Flavoured cider still has huge potential as the market is waiting for that new brand that will inject some excitement for retailers."

He added that the rosÚ beer would be aimed at women and sold mainly into the convenience sector

"We're targeting people who may have grown up with alcopops and progressed to drinking wine.

"There are three times as many

women who drink beer on the continent than there are in the UK and we hope

this will attract more women to beer

in this market."

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
