Wearside-based Alcohol Brands, which produces sugar-free wine -based RTDs Pink and Blue, has merged with Glaswegian manufacturer Vodka Pom, which makes a vodka and pomegranate-flavoured RTD. Vodka Pom will come

under Alcohol Brands' stable of products from this month.

Hebridean distiller Bruichladdich has upped its sales by 15% in the year to Dec 31, 2008. Sales grew to 7.89 million from 6.86 million in 2007, and pre-tax profit increased by 42% to 1.07 million, according to the distillers' latest results. "Despite the environment - economic climate change, global financial warming, and banking meltdown - we are forecasting continued growth," said chief executive Mark Reynier.

Campari is to buy the Wild Turkey Bourbon brand and related businesses from Pernod Ricard for $575 million. The deal includes distillery facilities in Kentucky, a bulk aged-bourbon inventory and the American Honey liqueur brand.

Mixologist Antonio Simon etti of the Hoxton Pony has won the 2009 Brockmans Gin cocktail competition with his Miss Sage cocktail - containing fresh sage leaves, lime juice, ginger & lemon grass cordial, caramel sugar syrup, cloudy apple juice and Brockmans Gin.

Lifting the spirits

I were to sum up alcohol sales over Christmas 2017 in one word, it would be “gin”.
