Roberson stages Napa tasting

Roberson hosted a Cabernet

Legends of Napa Valley tasting on March 19, which it described as "a celebration of 10 of the best Napa Cabs, including legends like MonteBello, Opus One, Dominus, Cask 23, Montelena, Heitz, Dunn Vineyards and other top names".

Tickets were priced £80 for the event run by the Kensington merchant, which lists England manager Fabio Capello among its clients.

Portland plans second festival

Portland Wine Cellars of Southport, Lancs, is organising its second annual wine festival on July 1 and 2 at the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre.

The event will feature more than 200 wines, beers and spirits and have an entry price of £15. Doors open at 2pm on both days and close at 8.30pm.

Burgundy in the spotlight

Hampshire merchant Caviste is running its second annual Burgundy Festival on May 9 at Ashe Park House in Overton, Hants.

The £10-a-head event will be attended by up to 10 Burgundian producers, presenting more than 40 wines. A festival dinner has a ticket price of £125.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
