Kingstone Press progresses to pear

27 March, 2009

A pear version of Kingstone Press cider has been launched by Aston Manor.

The cider has an abv of 5.3%

and is being introduced in 66cl

bottles.

A marketing campaign is planned to support the new product. Sales

and marketing director Glenn Asquith said:

"In the current economic climate

the importance of innovation and providing consumers with affordable products with no decline in quality is paramount.

"We have purposely held back with the release of a Kingstone Press variant until we felt that the quality and type of product was just right."

He added that it had a drier taste than many other pear ciders on the market, in response to consumer research.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
