Alsace website emphasises Asian links

A website encouraging UK wine consumers to "eat Asian, drink Alsace" has been launched.

The site, developed by generic body Alsace Wines at alsacewines.co.uk, includes general information about the wines, appellations and the region, as well as details about activities in the UK, food and wine matching suggestions and recipes.

A section of the site is focused on the trade, and offers press releases, a tasting tutorial and a press information pack.

Richard Kannemacher, marketing director for the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins d’Alsace, said: “The key objective of the website is to talk directly to the consumers in the UK and to help demystify the wines, making them much more accessible and relevant.

"The design is clean, clear and modern, and reflects the colour palette and images used in our UK campaign. In addition, we hope the website will be a useful resource for our trade contacts.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
