Blossom Hill nets another tennis deal

27 May, 2009

Blossom Hill is to be the official wine of the Wimbledon tennis championships for the third year running.

The Diageo-owned brand is to mark the new deal with a limited edition Wimbledon label, featuring a tennis ball, which will be in-store on White Zinfandel and White Grenache for four weeks, including Wimbledon fortnight.

There will be tailored trade support designed to grow sales of the rosé varietals in a £750,000 campaign.

This will include press ads in London media and a national radio campaign on Heart FM and Real Radio.

At Wimbledon itself, there will be on-site sampling, and branded rickshaws will ferry tennis fans to and from local train and Tube stations.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
