Gallo launches NZ Sauvignon

Gallo is moving into the New Zealand wine market with the launch of Starborough Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2008-vintage wine, made from grapes sourced in Marlborough, is to retail for £8.99, and has flavours of honeydew melon, passion fruit, peach and citrus in the Marlborough style.

Marketing director for Europe Iain Newell said:"Starborough Sauvignon Blanc delivers the essence and characteristics of New Zealand's world-famous Sauvignon Blanc.

"We have worked closely with the winemakers to ensure that we offer our UK customers a wine that stands out from the crowd."

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
