First Drinks takes on Tia Maria

10 September, 2009

First Drinks has taken over the UK distribution of Tia Maria after Illva Saronno bought the coffee liqueur from Pernod Ricard.

The company said the move strengthens its premium portfolio as well as cementing its relationship with Illva Saronno, for whom it also distributes Disaronno.

Managing director Chris Mason said: "We are extremely pleased to take the classic coffee liqueur Tia Maria, which is worth £43.8 million, into our portfolio of premium brands.

"The non-cream liqueurs category is doing incredibly well and is worth more than £79 million in the grocery sector alone – up 16% year on year. Boosting our business with such a high profile and successful brand really is testament to our team's achievements in recent years."
