Namaqua in cricket sponsorship deal

South African wine brand Namaqua will be the broadcast sponsor of Sky Sports’ coverage of England’s winter cricket tour to South Africa which begins this month.

The sponsorship will see Namaqua branding featured on opening and closing credits, break-bumper ads and on-air promotions during the 27 days of coverage from November to January.

The cricket link-up follows Namaqua’s sponsorship of Sky Sports’ coverage during the Twenty20 Cup last summer.

Simon Halliday of Raisin Social, Namaqua’s UK importer, said: “England’s tour of South Africa should make for some fantastic viewing and this is a great opportunity to associate our brand with such an exciting fixture on this winter’s sporting schedule.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
