Melissa Draycott joins Gonzalez Byass

09 November, 2009

Former First Quench buyer Melissa Draycott is joining Gonzalez Byass in a sales consultancy role from December.

Martin Skelton, managing director, said: "We are delighted that Melissa has chosen to join us at this time, she has a wealth of experience as a senior buyer for Sainsbury's and as head of wine buying at First Quench.

"Melissa joins us at an exciting time for our business, when we are expanding both our Spanish wine portfolio and adding agency business such as Jackson Estate and Quinta Do Noval."

Draycott added: "I am excited about the new challenge at Gonzalez Byass and the opportunity to work in a supplier business and see the trade from that side is just too good to miss. Gonzalez Byass is a highly respected and successful company with a clear idea of where they're heading, making them a very attractive company to join."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
