Fresh round of redundancies at First Quench

11 November, 2009

The administrators of First Quench Retailing have made another round of head office job cuts with 35 redundancies announced today.

The decision follows the loss of 81 positions at the Welwyn Garden City office when KPMG was appointed to oversee the business' collapse at the end of October.

There were originally 208 employees at head office, which has now been reduced to 92.

Last week, a further 1,738 jobs went as 373 loss-making shops were told they would close.

Richard Fleming, UK head of restructuring at KPMG, and joint administrator, said: “Unfortunately, we have made a further 35 redundancies at head office in Welwyn Garden City. This follows the initial 81 redundancies announced on appointment of administrators.

"The redundancies reflect the reduced need for head office staff, following the store closure programme announced last week. The redundancies were made across the head office teams.”

The limitations of Instawines

Picture the scene. You put your key in the keyhole, shove the door with your shoulder, drop your bags and look down. There, beaming up at you, is some relative or friend’s smug postcard with sandy beaches, Piña Coladas and palm trees (or, these days, an in nity pool and a detox smoothie) with a literal or metaphorical “wish you were here” written large.
