Molson Coors urges vigilance against duty cheats

Molson Coors (UK) is urging its retail customers to help in the fight to stamp out duty fraud.

The brewer said it was working closely with HMRC in its Tackling Alcohol Fraud strategy, and shared industry concerns about rising excise evasion on drinks, especially big-name wines and lagers.

Sales director John Heynen said: “We take our responsibilities to HMRC very seriously and as a result have developed a communication channel to feed in any information surrounding suspected duty fraud, which we will use to communicate to all our customers.

“We also see this duty of care not just for ourselves, but for the legitimate wholesalers and retailers that we work with. We are committed to reducing the impact of alcohol fraud and building the beer category for the long term.”

The brewer has written to its customers asking that any physical evidence, e-mails or flyers, that raises the suspicion of duty fraud – for example offering products at a price lower than normal market rates – are forwarded directly to HMRC and notified them of the HMRC hotline.
