Nederburg adopts World Cup theme

South African wine brand Nederburg is rolling out a range of limited edition wines to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The range will consist of a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Sauvignon Blanc and a rosé (rrp £6.99).

The wines? will feature the official licensed product logo of the football tournament and will be available from July to the end of 2010.

Sarah Gandy, marketing manager for Distell Europe, said: “The 2010 FIFA World Cup is an enormous showcase??. This is the one chance South Africa has to put itself firmly on the map.

“As Nederburg is the leading South African wine in so many international markets and with our intention to build our profile in the UK, it is a great opportunity to work with FIFA as an official supplier?.”?An estimated 400,000 visitors will travel to South Africa to watch the games, Gandy added.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
