Thatchers plays fruit card with Ciderberry

Thatchers is entering the fruit cider market with the launch of Ciderberry.

The cidermaker describes the new products as “a rich, red, medium fruit cider”. It is infused with the natural berry juices of blackcurrants, raspberries and blueberries.

Martin Thatcher, managing director of Thatchers, said: “Thatchers Ciderberry is the natural progression for existing fruit cider consumers. Fruit and pear is still the fastest?-growing cider category, and is proving to be an exciting market?.

“Ciderberry has a slightly drier taste than other fruit ciders?. We believe it will appeal to a more sophisticated palate.” The fruit cider has an rrp of £3.99 and an abv of 5.4%. It is packaged in a wine-style 75cl bottle and has been designed to create a sister brand to Katy Rosé, a pink apple cider launched last year.

“Ciderberry is a versatile cider?. It can be drunk chilled as an aperitif, with or without food, and will make a refreshing alternative to more traditional ciders, wine and lager,” Thatcher added.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
