Hegarty joins Drinkaware

Drinkaware has appointed Paul Hegarty, Molson Coors’ former head of communication, to help manage the charity’s relationship with investors from the trade.

The move comes after 50 firms in the industry? pledged more than £15 million to support the charity’s work over the next three years.

Hegarty said: “The substantial financial support from the industry for Drinkaware clearly demonstrates that alcohol producers and retailers fully understand that alcohol abuse is hurting their businesses.

“I will be helping find ways for funding companies to work in partnership with Drinkaware to change Britain’s drinking culture, to help people understand how they can enjoy a drink without hurting themselves or other members of society.”?

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
