Former chairman of London wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd Anthony Berry passed away on February 23, aged 94.

Berry joined the family company in 1936 before spending six years in the Royal Navy during the war.

In 1965 he took over as chairman, and continued in the post for 20 years.

Despite his main focus being wine, Cutty Sark Scots Whisky – invented by his father – saw great success in export markets during this time.

Berry became master of the Vintners’ Company in 1980.
