Tesco lists Cains IPA

22 March, 2010

Liverpool-based Cains brewery has secured a UK-wide listing with Tesco for its canned India Pale Ale.

The beer is one of the brewery’s “most popular ales”, according to owner Sudarghara Dusanj.

He said: “IPA is well loved and it's great to know that our version will be on dining tables throughout the UK.

“Getting a nationwide listing means thousands of new consumers will get to taste it.

“It is considered the perfect accompaniment to a spicy curry so Tesco customers picking up a take-home dish will hopefully try it out.”

Ian Targett, beer buyer at Tesco, said: “We have a great range of ales in Tesco and are pleased to represent regional producers on a national level, giving customers a great opportunity to see how exciting and diverse ale can be.

“It’s fantastic to work with a regional brewery to give local businesses a UK platform for products.”

The IPA is brewed with Fuggles hops as part of the brewing team's ‘Only the Best’ policy on ingredients, which has also helped Cains secure the Assured Food Standards Red Tractor logo.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
