Stratford’s targets Chilean brand at indies

08 April, 2010

Stratford’s Wine Agencies is targeting its new Chilean brand Santa Loreto at independent retailers.

The range consists of 2009 Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah rosé, Carmenere/Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with recommended retail prices ranging from £5.99 to £6.50.

Santa Loreta is produced by family-run Bodegas de Aguirre in the Maule’s Villa Alegre and the company uses estate grown fruit from 200ha of vineyards surrounding the winery.

Stratford’s owner Paul Stratford said: “Stratford’s have been working with Bodegas de Aguirre since 2008 with their national account brand Sol de Chile, and we felt that the time was right for us to introduce their wines to the independent market.

“They produce excellent quality estate wines with real varietal clarity, and as an independent family run business they complement our portfolio perfectly.”

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
