Whyte & Mackay enters premix market

19 April, 2010

Whyte & Mackay has entered the canned premix spirits market with the launch of a whisky and cola.

The drink is available in a 25cl can and has an abv of 4.5%.

The move comes on the back of strong growth for the canned premix spirit-mixer category in multiple grocers, led by a range of products from Diageo.

John Bradbury, off-trade sales director at W&M, said: W&M are constantly looking at ways to help our customers increase sales.

"Having whisky ready mixed means that consumers who wish to only have one drink can do so without opening a large bottle of coke which may then go flat. The 25cl cans size also means that they are an ideal size for chilling and storing in the fridge."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
