Exporter rebuilds workers’ homes

Chilean exporter VSPT Wine Group has rebuilt the first of its workers’ homes destroyed by the country’s devastating earthquake in March.

All of VSPT’s staff survived the disaster, but more than 130 workers’ homes were either destroyed or damaged.

Homes affected on the group’s estates will be rebuilt completely, while those outside its vineyards will benefit from a reconstruction plan to raise money via workers’ monetary contributions – which will be doubled by the VSPT – and overseas donations.

The company has also organised food and money collections, which have already reached victims, and voluntary work teams in the worst-affected areas.

VSPT formed in 2008 when San Pedro and Tarapacá came together. The group claims to be the second-largest exporter of bottled Chilean wine.
