OLN to host LIWF events

30 April, 2010

Off Licence News will be hosting two events at the London International Wine Fair next month and has gathered some of the leading lights in drinks retailing to share their views.

The first event, Beyond three-for-£10: is premiumisation back on retailers’ agendas?, will ask whether consumers are becoming more willing to trade up and, if so, how the market can ensure it capitalises on any growth in confidence.

Justin James, Sainsbury’s BWS category manager, Rowan Gormley, founder of Naked Wines, Andrew Shaw, wine buyer at Waitrose, and Ruth Yates, owner of Corks Out, will give their perspectives between 11.15am-12.15pm on May 18.

The following day from 12.30pm-1.30pm, we’ll put the future of high street retailing under the microscope.

Discussing the sector’s long-term viability will be: Simon Baile, Oddbins’ managing director, Jonathan Butt, managing director of Butt Naked Drinks and former head of global sourcing at First Quench, Philip Amps, owner of Amps Fine Wine, and Matthew Dickinson, commercial director at Thierry’s.

Both sessions will be hosted by Off Licence News editor Rosie Davenport and take place in the Wine Intelligence Theatre. To reserve a place, contact sarah.corbett@william-reed.co.uk stating which discussion you would like to attend.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
