Marston's take-home sales up 8%

Marston’s increased sales in its beer division by 8.6% in the 26 weeks to April 3 against the corresponding period a year earlier.

Take-home sales for the beer company were also up by 8%, with profits 1.4% ahead.

Group pre-tax profit was marginally ahead at £27.8 million on turnover up 0.6% at £309.2 million.

Chief executive Ralph Findlay described the performance as “encouraging”.

Recent beer sales trends were consistent with the first half of the financial year and “in line with our expectations,” Findlay said.

He added: “Consumer confidence has slowly returned, although the recovery remains fragile and vulnerable to economic weakness and further increases in taxation.”
