Berry Bros launches gin

19 March, 2010

Berry Bros & Rudd Spirits has launched a gin which it says celebrates the integrity and character of traditional London dry gin.

No 3 London Dry Gin has taken a year to develop, and features three fruits and three spices distilled in traditional copper-pot stills, including juniper, orange peel, angelica root and cardamom.

Berry Bros chairman Simon Berry said: “No 3 is a traditional London dry gin. By traditional, we mean gin that tastes as gin should, with juniper at its heart. We are determined that No 3 will be the last word in gin for a dry Martini.

“To achieve this we asked one of the world’s authorities in the art and science of gin distillation, Dr David Clutton, as well as a panel of gin specialists, writers and mixologists to help us.”?No 3 refers to the Berry Bros address in St James’s Street, London. It has an abv of 46% and will be available from April through Inspirit Brands, and will have an rrp of £32.95 for a 70cl bottle.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
