Brothers aims to revitalise apple cider

Brothers Cider is venturing into the apple cider market and hopes to invigorate a sub-sector it believes has taken a back seat to pear and flavoured ciders.

Its Bittersweet Apple brand is 5.5% abv and “high in tannin but low in acidity”, according to the company. It is available in 50cl bottles and 10 x 25cl stubby packs.

Managing director Matthew Showering said he felt it was time “?to take our fast-growing brand and inject some excite-?ment into the apple cider marketplace”.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
