Have fun for next trade charity day

28 May, 2010

People working in the drinks trade are being asked to stage Comic Relief-style fundraising activities on June 4 as part of the Benevolent Day.

The first Benevolent Day last year raised 10,000 for the trade charity, which is hoping to exceed that amount this year. It is suggesting Champagne hoopla and blind tasting competitions as just two of the ways companies can join in.

A fundraising pack with tips and ideas is available from robpickard@thebenevo

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
