Global continues expansion with wine division

Global Brands has launched a premium wine division as part of its bid to become “one of the UK’s leading drinks brand development businesses”.

The move comes just weeks after Global’s acquisition of premium spirits agency Inspirit Brands.

The wine division will target Adoro Wines from South Africa and Marilyn Merlot from Bordeaux at independent merchants and multiple specialists.

Adoro’s range – a Chenin Blanc/Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc 2008 called Naudé, Sauvignon Blanc 2008, and a Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2008 – uses grapes from across South Africa, blended at Adora’s Stellenbosch winery.

Global has appointed Richard Wilson, previously sales director for Montana Wines and business unit director at Hardys, head of wine development.

“Marilyn Merlot and Adoro wines ooze quality and position Global Brands as a provider of niche, sophisticated wine brands that are well respected within the industry,” Wilson said.

He added that Global would look to expand the division by taking on more wines in the coming months.?

Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
