M&S adds beer for World Cup

11 June, 2010

Marks & Spencer has introduced four new SKUs to its beer aisle for the World Cup.

The 4% abv Draught French Lager 5-litre keg, from the Brasserie Champigneulle in Lorraine, and a 3.8% abv Draught Leicestershire Bitter 5-litre keg from Everards have been added to the range (both priced £16.99).

It also has two new guest beers for the summer – Adnams’ Southwold Summer Beer and Crouch Vale’s Essex Summer Ale. Both are £1.99 for a 50cl bottle.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
