Dawson joins M&S Wine Direct

Emma Dawson has joined Marks & Spencer as buyer in the online wine business M&S Wine Direct.

Dawson previously spent six years at Sainsbury’s in wine and ecommerce.

BWS category manager Andrew Bird said: “With her passion for product and extensive commercial experience of the worlds of wine and digital media, Emma will be a key part of M&S’s strategy to grow our wine ecommerce business over the months and years ahead.”?Dawson won the Derouet Jameson scholarship in last year’s Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma exam, which she will use to part-fund her MW course.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
