González Byass?seeks new brands

The UK arm of González Byass is on the hunt for new agencies after a deal to distribute Champagne house Jacquart’s portfolio collapsed.

Marketing director Jeremy Rockett said the company was looking to take on more “premium brands with like-minded companies”, and said the search wasn’t limited to Champagne.

Rockett told OLN: “González Byass UK has to build its agency business, although it’s not looking to have a telephone book of brands. The deal [with Champagne Jacquart] fell apart, we walked away. We’ll move on to the next thing.”?The sherry firm has unveiled Tio Pepe En Rama to celebrate its 175th anniversary. Rockett described the new fino, which is made without fining or clarification, as “Tio Pepe on steroids”.

Just 175 cases have been made to mark the anniversary, with bottles retailing for £11.99.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
