Cider gets its own Challenge

11 June, 2010

A competition has been launched to celebrate the diversity and innovation of the cider category.

Drinks International, organiser of the International Beer Challenge, has set up the inaugural International Cider Challenge, in association with Off Licence News. The closing date for entries is July 30 and the ciders will be blind tasted by a panel of expert judges in August. They will assess the ciders’ taste, appearance and aroma.

The results will be published in September and medals and trophies will be awarded to the best ciders.

Justin Smith from Drinks International said: “By entering the International Cider Challenge, all cider producers have the opportunity to benefit from huge exposure of their brands. Winning an International Cider Challenge medal will see brands awarded with an internationally recognised symbol of quality.”?Simon Russell, spokesman for the National Association of Cider Makers, welcomed the launch.

“This initiative will be valuable for cidermakers because of the exposure they can expect in the trade media and the value that generates in terms of increasing distribution and growing their profile,” he said.

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards.
