Oxford takes on Bona Wines

08 January, 2010

Wine merchant and wholesaler the Oxford Wine Company is expanding with the takeover of Bona Wines, a wholesale company based in Gloucestershire.

The deal will take effect in February and sees the Oxford Wine Company merge its wine list with Bona Wines. It will also take on additional warehouse space.

Ted Sandbach, owner and managing director of the Oxford Wine Company, said: “Jackie Wheels has owned Bona Wines for 11 years and built up a strong customer base, but has been finding it hard to develop her expanding business?in its current form.

“She will have considerably more scope to do so within the framework of?a larger company.”?“Jackie brings with her great knowledge, enthusiasm and energy as well as a good deal of experience.”?The merger enables the Oxford Wines Company to expand its operations and “strengthen its presence in the region”, Sanbach added.

It is also looking to appoint two new members of staff – a warehouse assistant and a trade sales executive.

The Oxford Wine Company currently stocks over 1,500 wines and spirits as well as specialising in vintage Armagnac and malt whisky. The company’s head office and distribution centre is based at Standlake near Witney.
